Hindu Festival Holidays
Hindu festivals play an important part for Hindus in India and across the world. Festivities are celebrated with prayers, rituals such as fasting, public fairs, decorating deities, and cooking special dishes. Hindus celebrate special events from Hindu mythology, which coincide with seasonal changes and agricultural cycles. Some of the most important Hindu festivals are Diwali, Vijayadashami, Maha Shivratri, etc.
Sikh Festival Holidays
Sikhs across India and the world celebrate several religious festivals and key historical events. Celebrations take place mostly in northern India and in other countries, including the UK and Canada, commemorating the birth or martyrdom of a Guru. The festivals are marked with the reading of the Guru Granth Sahib, prayer, fairs, etc.
Christian Festival Holidays
Christian holidays are important events for Christians reflecting upon the history and traditions of the church. Followers of Christ mark Christian festivals with praise, worship, fellowship and gorge on delicious food. Some of the most important Christian holidays are Christmas and Easter.
Muslim Festival Holidays
Muslims across the world observe two important and official Islamic holidays, Eid-Al-Fitr and Eid-Al-Adha, occurring on dates in the lunar Islamic calendar. While Eid-Al-Fitr is celebrated at the end of Ramadan month, Eid-Al-Adha is celebrated with prayers on the morning of the 1st day of the month of Shawwal. Apart from these two most important dates, Muslims observe several other days of the year as holidays to mark important events in their religion.
National holidays in 2022
The National and Festival Holidays Act applies to all establishments in the country and mandates three holidays in India:
Republic Day: January 26;
Independence Day: August 15;
Gandhi Jayanti: October 2.
Irrespective of the law that a company, industry or organization follows, whether they are public or private organizations or multinational corporations, every entity in India must remain close on these days.

Real Time Gross Settlement (RTGS) which lets people transfer money from one bank to another. Reserve Bank of India regulates and maintains RTGS Services. Here is the list of RTGS holidays.

If you transfer money through RTGS on a bank holiday then the sender may receive a payment receipt the following working day.
Banks Holidays on the second and fourth Saturday
As mandated by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), commercial, non-scheduled, scheduled and regional rural banks of India will remain closed to the public on the 2nd and 4th Saturday of the month. This notification was effective from September 1, 2015. Earlier Banks used to work till half day on the Saturdays but now they are bank holidays. If the month has Five Saturdays, then the bank will remain open on the 5th Saturday.
Corporate Holidays 2022 India pdf – calendar
Uttarayan/Makar Sankranti/Pongal :
The festival of Uttarayan marks the end of winter and the beginning of longer days. It is a sign for the farmers that the Sun is back and that the harvest season, Makara Sankranti, is approaching. Pongal is a multi-day Hindu Harvest festival in South India. It is observed at the start of the month according to Tamil solar calendar.
Republic Day :
It is a national holiday in India. when the country marks and celebrates the date on which the Constitution of India came into effect on January 26th, 1950. The Constitution was adopted by the Indian Constituent Assembly on 26 November 1949 and came into effect on 26 January 1950 with a democratic government system.
Maha Shivaratri:
It is a Hindu festival celebrated in honour of God Shiva. The name also refers to the night when Lord Shiva performs heavenly dance. It is a major festival in Hinduism and this festival is solemn and marks the remembrance of “overcoming darkness and ignorance in life” and world.
Holi:
Holi is considered one of the most revered and celebrated festivals of India and it is also celebrated in almost every part of the country. It is celebrated with the name Holika Dahan or Choti Holi on the first evening of the festival and the following day is called Holi.
Eid-ul-Fitr
It is the first day of the Islamic month of Shawwal. It marks the end of Ramadan, which is a month of fasting and prayer. Many Muslims attend communal prayers, listen to a khutbah (sermon) and give zakat al-fitr (charity as food) during Eid al-Fitr.
Ugadi:
Celebrated in Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, Ugadi is observed on the first day of the month of Chaitra of the Hindu lunar calendar.As per Hindu mythology, it was on this day that Lord Brahma created the universe. He then went on to create days, weeks, months, and years. So, Ugadi is believed to be the first day of the creation of the universe.
Raksha Bandhan:
Rakha Bandhan is a popular Hindu annual rite, or ceremony. On this day, sisters of all ages tie a tailsman, or amulet called Rakhi around the wrists of their brothers symbolically protecting them, receiving a gift in return and investing the share of brothers with a share of the responsibility of their potential care.
Ram Navami:
It is a Hindu spring festival that celebrates the birth of Shree Rama, the seventh avatar of the god Vishnu. The festival is a part of spring (Vasant) Navratri.
Mahavir Jayanti:
Mahavir Janma Kalyanak is one of the most important religious festivals in Jainism. It celebrates the birth of Mahavir, the twenty-fourth and last Tirthankara of the present Avasarpiṇī . On the Gregorian calendar, the holiday occurs either in March or April.
Krishna Janmashtami:
Krishna Janmashtami, also known as Janmashtami or Gokulashtami, is an annual Hindu festival that celebrates the birth of Krishna, the eighth avatar of Lord Vishnu. It is an important festival, particularly in the vaishnavism tradition of Hinuism.
Good Friday:
Christians observe Good Friday as a commemoration of the death of Jesus Christ. Prayers, sermons and, praise and worship are observed by the followers of Christ. The date of Good Friday varies from one year to the next on both Gregorian and Julius Calendars.
Ganesh Chaturthi:
Marking the birth of Lord Ganesh, the God of new beginnings and prosperity. Ganesh Chaturthi falls in the month of Bhadra, according to the Hindu calendar. Lord Ganesh is considered as the symbol of wisdom, writing, travel, commerce and good fortune.
Vaisakhi:
Also known as Baisakh. It is a religious festival celebrated by Hindus and Sikhs commemorating the formation of Khalsa Panth under Guru Gobind Singh. Usually celebrated on the 13th or 14th of April as the new solar year. It is additionally spring harvest season in Punjab.
May Day:
Usually celebrated on the 1st of May or 1st Monday of May every year, May Day commemorates the struggles and gains made by the labour class of the society. It is observed in several countries across the globe. Dances, singing and cake are usually part of the festival.
Onam:
Malayalees across the country and around the world celebrate Onam marking the homecoming of King Mahabali. The festival of harvest that falls in the months of August/September annually. It is celebrated across India and around the world. Main festivity among keralites.
Sant Guru Kabir Jayanti:
This event is observed in honour of Sant Kabir Das. He was a renowned poet, saint and social reformer in India. It is an annual festival celebrated on every full moon day in the Hindu month Jyestha.
Maharana Pratap Jayanti:
The event celebrates the popular king from the 16th century in Rajasthan who fought the Mughals in the country.
Bakrid/Eid-Al-Adha:
Considered the holiest event in the Islamic religion. Bakrid or the festival of sacrifice, which honours the act of obedience to God by Ibrahim to sacrifice his son.
Independence Day:
Celebrated on the 15th of August every year. Independence Day commemorates the freedom from British rule in India. This is also one of three national holidays observed in the country.
Gandhi Jayanti:
One of the most important national holidays of India is the Gandhi Jayanti, celebrating the birth of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, the Father of the Nation.
Vijayadashami:
This day marks the journey of Goddess Durga back to Kailash. Also, after ten days of staying at her parent’s house on Earth. Every year, Mother Durga also visits her paternal house along with her four children—Lakshmi, Saraswati, Kartikeya and Ganesha.
Diwali:
We also know Diwali as Deepavali, Divali and Deepawali. It is the festival of lights celebrating the victory of good over evil. The festival gets its name from the row (avali) of clay lamps (deep). Indians light outside their homes to symbolize the inner light that protects from spiritual darkness. Over the centuries, Diwali has become a national festival that’s also enjoyed by non-Hindu communities.
Guru Nanak Jayanti:
Guru Nanak Jayanti/Prakash Utsav is the most auspicious and significant days in Sikhism. This day marks the birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev. He was the founder of the religion of Sikhism and also the first of the Sikh Gurus.
Christmas:
Christians across the world celebrate the 25th of December as Christmas. This day marks the birth of the Lord Jesus Christ. It is both a sacred religious holiday and a worldwide cultural and commercial phenomenon. For two millennia, people around the world have been observing it with traditions and practices that are both religious and secular.
